A clinical trial (Yin et al., 2022) examining the effects of electrical acupuncture for insomnia in
270 patients with depression found that patients treated with electrical acupuncture 3 times per week for 8 weeks experienced approximately 30 more minutes of sleep, and significant improvements in:
· Anxiety
· Depression
· Insomnia
For Practitioners:
Points Needled: DU20, DU24, HT7, PC6, SP6, Yintang, and Anmian. Needles were manipulated by rotating or lifting and thrusting until deqi was felt by the patient.
E-Stim Nodes: DU20 and Yintang, continuous wave based on patient’s tolerance.
